If you've ever wanted to bring a little handcrafted love into your life, you're in for a treat. Today we will be delving into the delightful world of amigurumi hearts. These cute crocheted items are not only fun to make but also a great way to show your love for someone special. Whatever your level of crochet skill, you will have fun with the process of making an adorable crochet amigurumi heart.

Amigurumi Heart Pattern Tutorial
Amigurumi is similar to crochet; in fact, it is made from crochet, but it particularly refers to the method of constructing 3D toys. Crochet employs a variety of methods, but amigurumi usually entails working in the round in a single crochet, creating spheres that are later stuffed to create charming little animals.
So these particular hearts will be made from single crochet stitches, and stuffed with fiberfill or a similar type of stuffing.
I have included different sizes of amigurumi hearts here, so you can choose which you prefer to make, depending on what the heart’s intended use is.
Difficulty Level for Amigurumi Hearts
Basic/ beginner. This is a really simple amigurumi heart design, and it is a very easy item to crochet. Begin by creating the top two little round pieces for the top of the heart, then combine them and continue working in rounds. This heart is crocheted from top to bottom.
Abbreviations
All instructions are written in American terminology
- st = stitch
- ch = chain
- sc = single crochet
- sc2 tog = single crochet 2 together. This is the same as working a decrease.
- dec = decrease
- inc = increase
- yo = yarn over
Guage is not important for this heart crochet pattern.
How to Sc2Tog for Amigurumi Hearts
Whenever you need to work a decrease, you will start the first sc stitch but leave it incomplete, then start the second stitch, then complete both stitches together.
This means that your two sc stitches will combine at the top, forming only one stitch and reducing your stitch count by one.
- Insert hook
- YO, pull through (2 loops)
- Insert into the next stitch
- YO, pull through (3 loops)
- YO, pull through 3 (1 loop)
Supplies for Crochet Heart Toy
- Yarn
- Crochet hook in s suitable size
- Fiberfill (stuffing)
- Stitch markers
- Scissors
- Yarn needle or tapestry needle
Best Yarn for Puffy Crochet Hearts
- SMALL CROCHET HEART - Use a fingering yarn (4ply) with a 2.75-3.5 mm hook or DK yarn with a 3 mm hook.
- LARGE CROCHET HEART- Use a bulky yarn (12ply) and a hook size 6-7mm or a worsted weight yarn (10ply) with a 4 mm hook.
This yarn thickness is just a suggestion. You can make the heart with the yarn of your choice and a crochet hook to suit that yarn. The hook size suggestions above are smaller than you would usually use, but these give a denser heart where the stuffing will not poke through.
Small Amigurumi Heart
This cute little crochet heart pattern is quick and easy to make and can be used for any number of things. You could attach one to a key chain, make a sweet garland of puffy little hearts, or add one to a gift as an extra expression of love! They would make cute bag charms, and of course, will be perfect for Valentine's Day or as decorations or gifts.

Large Amigurumi Heart 3D
You may feel that you want to go all out and make a bigger, more cuddly heart. This size would be perfect as a child’s toy (you could embroider a face onto it!) or as soft huggable heart pillows.
This heart crochet pattern is made in the same way as the small heart but with a different stitch count. It makes a plump and pudgy heart, ideal for cuddling.

You will have 60 stitches total after sewing them together to begin the main section of the heart. Before continuing, make sure you have 60 stitches.
