Best Fabrics for Apron Sewing Patterns

Since aprons are daily-use items that are meant to be used in not-so-clean settings, get stained, and be washed several times, only fabrics that can stand such treatment are well-suited.

Choose good quality fabric when you’re making your aprons. I recommend 100% cotton fabrics with a high thread count. Both denim and canvas are good options. Besides pure cotton, poly blends are also durable. Aprons made with pure cotton or poly blends are mostly durable and lightweight.

Tips For Sewing Apron Patterns

Before we delve into the apron sewing patterns, here are some tried tips and tricks to get you started:

  1. Use good quality fabric - Aprons are used in settings most prone to stains, so they are likely to be washed multiple times. It is important to use pure cotton or poly blends of good quality. Also, consider using a large seam allowance to leave some room for wear and tear.
  2. Press as You Sew - Use an iron to press the fabric along the entire length and width of the apron as you sew. The lesser the folds and creases, the more likely it is that you will create a neatly stitched end product.
  3. Consider Stitching with Laminated Fabrics - Laminated fabrics are easy to cut and work with. If you have worked with quilting cotton, you will find the experience quite similar. Read how to laminate fabric.
  4. Use Scraps for Pockets - Instead of using extra fabric, consider using scraps for adding neck straps, pockets, and waist ties.
  5. Use a bias tape maker - Use a bias tape maker to finish the top edge and other edges for a pop of color.
