Bobble Cowl Crochet Pattern (Free!)

The cluster rows in this bobble cowl pattern are a variation of the double crochet as is the mesh rows in between. It is a simple 4 row repeat crocheted in worsted weight yarn.

I love using worsted weight yarn as there is so much choice available and it is easy to find in any craft store. Crafted using worsted weight yarn, this cowl is cozy and quick to make.

Supplies

• Worsted weight yarn (10ply) #4. Approximately 320m (350y)
• 5mm (H-8) crochet hook or size to meet gauge.

I used All Seasons Half and Half. 1 skein of grey and 1 skein of cream. You can use any worsted weight yarn.

Skill Level

Intermediate. While not hard, it uses the bobble cluster stitch which is a variation on the double crochet stitch.

Gauge

13 st and 14 rows of sc with a 5mm (H-8) hook.

Sizing

32 x 9.5 inches (81×24 cm). The size can be adjusted by altering the number of chains or rows.

Special Stitches – Cluster Stitch

For the bobble crochet cowl pattern, you will need to do a cluster stitch in row 3.

1. YO, insert hook into next stitch, YO pull through. YO, draw through 2 loops. (2 loops on hook)
2. YO, insert hook into same stitch, YO pull through. YO, draw through 2 loops. (3 loops on hook.)
3. YO, insert hook into same stitch, YO pull through. YO, draw through 2 loops. (4 loops on hook.)
4. YO, draw through 4 loops. (1 loop on hook.)    

Bobble Cowl Crochet Pattern Instructions

Row 1 (Hdc row)

1. In color A, chain 104 (or any even number).
2. Join chain into loop with a slip stitch. Make sure chain is not twisted.
3. Ch1 (doesn’t count as stitch), hdc around row.
4. Sl st to join.

Row 2 (Sc row)

1. Continue color A. Ch 1 (doesn’t count as stitch), sc around row.
2. Sl st to join.

Row 3 (Cluster row)

Row 4 (Sc row)

1. Change to color A.
2. Ch 1 (doesn’t count as stitch), sc around row.
3. Sl st to join.

Row 5 (Mesh Row)

1. Change to color B.
2. Ch 4 (counts as first dc and 1 ch), sk1.
3. * Dc, ch1, sk1.
4. Repeat from * around row.
5. Sl St into 3^rd ch st to join.

Row 6 (Sc row)

1. Change to color A.
2. Ch 1 (doesn’t count as stitch), sc around row. (The sc will be into the top of the dc and through the chain spaces.) Sl st to join.

Row 7 to 21

Repeat the sequence in the crochet bobble cowl as follows.

• ROW 7 – CLUSTER
• ROW 8 – SC
• ROW 9 – MESH
• ROW 10 – SC
• ROW 11 – CLUSTER
• ROW 12 – SC
• ROW 13 – MESH
• ROW 14 – SC

Finishing

1. Fasten off and weave in ends.
