Chevron Blanket Crochet Pattern, FREE and Easy

Chevron Blanket Crochet Pattern Tutorial

Here are the supplies and information you will need to start the crochet chevron blanket.

Supplies

• Yarn: Worsted weight yarn in 4 colors. (10ply, category #4) 795m/870y.
• Crochet hook: 5mm (H-8).
• Tapestry needle: To weave ends.
• Scissors

I used Brava Worsted 100% acrylic in the following colors.

1. Color A – Tidepool
2. Color B – Tidal Speckle
3. Color C – Mint
4. Color D – Tranquil

This was my first time using this premium acrylic yarn, and I have to say I loved it. The yarn was soft on your hands to crochet and didn’t split, and I loved their huge color selection. The tidal speckle was a bit thicker than the solid colors, but since this was a blanket, it didn’t matter.

Each skein contained 218 yards and there was a little of each left over that I could have added tassels or a small amount of fringing.

Blanket Sizing and Adjusting

The finished size of this blanket is 31.5” wide by 29” high (80×73.5 cm). This was measured at the peaks.

Each v-shaped chevron is approximately 4.5” and contains 18 stitches.

You can make other sizes of blankets by adjusting the number of chains you start with. Of course, the length can be adjusted easily by adding or subtracting rows.

The chain 1 at the beginning of rows does not count as a stitch.

Gauge

My gauge was 13 stitches and 7 rows of double crochet with a 5mm (H-8) hook. However, the gauge is not important since this is a blanket pattern. Read my article on crochet blanket sizes.

Chevron Blanket Pattern Crochet Instructions

Row 1

1. Color A – Starting chain 129. (Multiple of 18 plus 3 turning. This is (7×18)+3.
2. Insert hook into 4^th chain, dc, dc in next 6 chains, sk 2. (counts as 8 dc)
3. *Dc in next 8 chains, ch2, dc in next 8 chains, sk2, dc in next 8 chains.
4. Repeat from * to end of row. Turn.

Row 2

1. Ch1 (doesn’t count as stitch), 2 dc into base of chain, dc in next 6 stitches, sk2. (8 dc stitches)
2. *Dc in next 7 stitches, dc in ch2-st, ch2 (8dc stitches)
3. Dc in same ch-2 space, dc in next 7 stitches, sk2. (8dc stitches)
4. Repeat from * along row until last section. (This will end with a sk2)
5. Dc into next 6 stitches, 2dc into final stitch. (8dc stitches) Turn.

Row 3 – 4

Repeat row 2.

Rows 5 and Beyond

1. Change color to B. Continue row 2, for 4 rows.
2. Change color to C. Continue row 2, for 4 rows.
3. Change color to D. Continue row 2, for 4 rows.
4. Repeat 4 rows of A,B,C,D until you are happy with the blanket length.
5. To make your blanket look balanced, end with the same color band as you started with.
6. Once you reach your desired length, fasten off and weave in the ends.

Blocking

To make your blanket have straight edges, you will need to block it. Blocking means wetting the finished article, pinning it to size, and letting it dry to the correct shape and size.
