This crochet blanket pattern is easy as it only uses double crochet stitches. The chevrons are created by chains or skipping stitches to make peaks and valleys.

Gauge (4 x 4” swatch)

10 st and 5 rows of dc with a 6.5mm hook. Each full chevron is 9 inches.

Sizing and Yarn

You can use this pattern to make any size. See the next page for common crochet blanket sizes. My sample was 44×37 inches (111x94cm) and used 700m/654y of yarn.

Here are some sizing suggestions and yarn lengths.

• The ratio of color A, B and C is approximately 3:2:1. This means for every 3 balls of color A you will need 2 balls of color B and 1 ball of color C.  
• The lengths below can be affected by your crochet tension, and type of yarn.
• Here are some suggested chain numbers for different sized blankets. The chevrons must be a multiple of 22 +3 is for the turning chain. These sizes have been adjusted so the width forms full 9 inch chevrons.

Chunky Chevron Blanket Crochet Pattern and Instructions

Row 1: Color A Teal

1. In color A, chain your foundation row according to the table on the previous page.
2. Insert hook into 4^th chain, dc. Dc into next 9 chains. (group of 10 dc as chain counts as 1dc)
3. *Sk2, Dc into next 10 chains. (group of 10 dc)
4. (Ch2, dc) into same chain as previous stitch. Dc into next 9 chains. (group of 10 dc.)
5. Repeat from * across row. You will end with 10 dc.

Row 2 and 3

1. Turn. Ch3 (counts as first dc), dc in base of chain. Dc into next 8 stitches. (group of 10 dc stitches)
2. *Sk2, Dc into next 10 stitches.
3. (Ch2, dc) into same chain as previous stitch. Dc into next 9 chains. (group of 10 dc.)
4. Repeat from * across row. End with 2dc into the last stitch (3^rd chain of row below) to complete that group of 10.
5. Repeat for row 3.

Row 4: Color B Cream

Join color B and repeat row 2.

Row 5: Color C Yellow

Join color C and repeat row 2.

Row 6: Color B Cream

Join color B and repeat row 2.

Row 7 and Beyond

Continue with same pattern until you reach your desired length.

• Color A – 3 rows
• Color B – 1 row
• Color C – 1 row
• Color B – 1 row

It looks balanced if you end with the 3 rows of color A.

Finishing the Chunky Blanket Pattern
