Crochet Snowflake Patterns - 3 Best Styles

In each of these patterns, I have started with ‘Make a magic ring’ OR, ch 6, join with a sl st to make a ring. I personally prefer the ch 6 method for snowflakes. It leaves a larger central hole, which gives a lacier effect. But of course, it is a matter of personal opinion!

How to Stiffen Crochet Snowflakes

When your crocheted snowflakes are finished, you'll want them to preserve their shape and stay flat.

First, you'll need to block your snowflakes, which entails steaming them into perfect shape. If you have used acrylic yarn, it is better not to actually press the snowflake, as this will flatten it, and it will lose all its texture!

Second, you'll want to retain their shape at all times. There are a few ways listed below that may assist you with this stage.

What is the best stiffener for crochet snowflakes?

  • Sugar Water: Boil equal parts sugar and water to get a sugar-water solution. Dip your crocheted snowflake into it once it has cooled. Squeeze the snowflake gently rather than twisting it. Allow to dry flat.
  • Liquid starch: This is an excellent way to stiffen your crochet snowflakes. Use a spray bottle (mixed with water) or apply directly on the snowflake.
  • Mixing Glue and Water: Combine equal quantities glue and water. Soak the crocheted snowflake in it without twisting it. Mod Podge thinned down might also work well! Because this is an irreversible process, make sure you shape it before it dries.
