Supplies for Simple Crochet Gloves

• Yarn: Worsted Weight Yarn (10ply) Approx 110m/120y.
• Crochet hook: 4.5 mm and 5 mm crochet hook or size to obtain gauge.

The Yarn I Used

For the sample in this crochet fingerless gloves pattern, I used Paintbox Wool Mix Aran in Spearmint Green. This yarn is 20% wool and comes in many beautiful colors. I liked the way it gave a nice stitch definition and it felt soft to crochet.

Gloves are best made with wool, wool blend, or acrylic yarn. Choose a yarn that is soft and can be washed and doesn’t pill easily. Cotton isn’t particularly warm and doesn’t stretch as much so I wouldn’t use it for this project.

I also added 4 gold buttons to the wrist, which are purely decorative. They were sewn on at the end with regular cotton thread. I feel like they make the fingerless gloves more dressy.

Crocheting the Wrist Ribbing

The wrist is crocheted using a single crochet rib to ensure it has a lot of stretch to get over your hand but is still snug on your wrist. If you would like a longer or shorter wrist section, just adjust the number of chain stitches.

1. Using the 4.5 mm hook, chain 16 (15 plus 1).
2. Sc into the second chain, sc into rest of chains (15 stitches), turn.
3. *Ch 1 (doesn’t count as stitch) sc into base of chain.
4. Scblo across row until last stitch. Sc into last stitch.
5. Repeat from * for 27 more rows. (14 ribs)
6. Fold the band in half and slip stitch the edges together.
7. Turn the band the right way out.
