Its plush texture is perfect for creating thick, warm projects like this v-stitch blanket, while its easy-care properties mean it’s machine washable. Sometimes chunky acrylic yarn can be a little rough to crochet with, but this was really soft and easy on the hands.

• dc = double crochet stitch
• ch = chain stitch

Sizing and Yarn

Here are some sizing suggestions and yarn lengths.

• The ratio of color A to color B is approximately 2:1. This means for every 2 balls of color A you will need 1 ball of color B for the stripes. So 2/3 of color A and 1/3 of color B.
• The lengths below can be affected by crochet tension, and type of yarn.
• To work out the number of chains you need use the following formula  (size in inches x 2.25) +3. Round up to a multiple of 3.

Example: For a 20 inch blanket: (20×2.25)+3 = 48 >> 48 is a multiple of 3 so no need to round>> 48 chains

Here are some suggested chain numbers for different sized blankets. The number of chains include an extra 3 chains for turning.

My sample was 34×42 inches and used 630 meters/690yards of yarn. I chained 81 to start. I used 210m/230y of cream and 420m/460y of grey.

V-Stitch Blanket Crochet Pattern, Written Instructions

The v-stitch blanket pattern alternates 4 rows of regular double crochet and 5 rows of v-stitch in alternating colors.

Row 1 (DC Row)

1. In color A. Chain multiple of 3
2. Dc into 4^th hook from chain.
3. Dc across row. Turn.

Row 2 to 4 (DC Rows)

1. Chain 3 (counts as first dc stitch), dc across row.
2. Last dc is into the top of the ch3 from previous row. Turn.

Row 5 (V-STITCH ROW – CREAM)

1. Change to color B, chain 3 (counts as first dc stitch), dc in next stitch.
2. Skip 1, (dc, ch1, dc) into next stitch.
3. *Skip 2, (dc, ch1, dc) into next stitch.
4. Repeat from * across row to last 3 stitches.
5. Skip 1, dc in last 2 stitches. (last dc into top of the chain 3 of previous row)
6. Turn.

Row 6 (V-STITCH ROW – GREY)

1. Change to color A. Ch 3 (counts as first dc stitch), dc in top of next stitch.
2. *(dc, ch1, dc) into the next chain 1 space.
3. Repeat from * across row.
4. Dc in last 2 stitches. (last dc into top of the chain 3 of previous row). Turn.

Beyond

• Row 7 (V-STITCH ROW – CREAM) – Repeat row 5 (color B)
• Row 8 (V-STITCH ROW – GREY) – Repeat row 7 (color A)
• Row 9 (V-STITCH ROW – CREAM) – Repeat row 8 (color B)
• Row 10 -14 (4 X dc rows) – Change to color A, chain 3, dc across row. (For row 10 only, there will be one dc in each of the chain 1 spaces.)

Continue with the sequence of

• 5 V-stitch rows alternating colors
• 4 dc rows
• Finish your blanket on 4 dc rows and weave in all ends.

Pom Pom Trim

Join color B to the edge on the right with a slip stitch.

1. Chain 6
2. *Yarn over, insert hook into 3ch chain from hook. Yarn over, pull through (3 loops on hook). Yarn over, pull through 2 (2 loops on hook)
3. Repeat from * 3 more times (5 loops on hook).
4. Yarn over and pull through 5. (1 loops on hook)
5. Fold pom pom in half and slip stitch into the same 3^rd chain to close it.
6. Chain 3, skip 2, slip stitch  in next stitch.
7. Repeat step 1-6 to make pom poms to end.
8. Fasten off and do same to other end of blanket.
