This easy washcloth crochet pattern is simple if you want a more textured cloth. The crochet stitch creates a raised square texture in the finished project. You work a single crochet stitch between each stitch and row to create an alternating pattern. You can adjust the size by using any even number of chains as the foundation chain.

Supplies

  • Yarn: Worsted (10ply, category 4)
  • Crochet hook: 5mm
  • Tapestry needle: For weaving ends.

Special Stitch – Cluster Stitch

In this easy washcloth crochet pattern, you will use a cluster stitch:

  1. YO, insert hook into next stitch, pull through (3 on hook).
  2. YO, pull through 2 (2 on hook).
  3. YO, insert hook into same stitch, pull through (4 on hook).
  4. YO, pull through 2 (3 on hook).
  5. YO, pull through 3 (1 on hook).

Easy Washcloth Pattern Instructions

Row 1

  1. Chain 30 (any even number).
  2. Insert hook into 2nd chain, sc.
  3. Sc across row (30 stitches). Turn.

Row 2

  1. Ch 1, sc into base of chain.
  2. *Sc into next stitch, cluster into next stitch.
  3. Repeat to last 2 stitches, sc into last 2 stitches. Turn.

Row 3

  1. Ch1, sc into base of chain.
  2. Sc across row. Turn.

Row 4- 27

  1. Repeat rows 2 and 3 until you have a square.
  2. OPTIONAL HOOK: At the corner, chain 8 (or longer if you wish) and join to the base with a slip stitch.
  3. Fasten off and weave in all ends.
  4. To make your dishcloth or washcloth look its best, you will need to block. This shapes and smooths uneven stitches. Read more about blocking crochet.
