Flower Scarf Crochet Pattern (Free!)

Put your granny squares to good use with this flower scarf crochet pattern. With tapered ends finishing with a tassel, you are sure to turn heads with this beautiful scarf.

Flower Scarf Crochet Pattern Tutorial

This crochet flower scarf is made from 11 granny square stitched toghether with crochet triangles on the ends. Once stitched together you will add a border and the tassels really finish it off.

Supplies

• YARN: DK (8ply, light worsted, category 3) 490m/536y
• HOOK: 4 mm (G) hook size
• CROCHET TOOLS: Scissors, needle

What Yarn Did I Use?

I used Cleckheaton Country in Pearl Blush Marle, Lichen Marle, Mallard, Sage, and White. This soft yarn is 100% wool and washable. It felt lovely to crochet with, and I loved the marle color options.

You can, of course, use any DK yarn in wool, wool blend, or acrylic. I don’t recommend cotton yarn for this crochet pattern.

Skill Level

This flower scarf crochet pattern uses basic crochet stitches, like the double crochet stitch. You will learn to sew granny squares together and create an attractive border.

Dimensions

Each square is 6×6 inches (18x18cm)

The flower scarf crochet pattern sample is 70 x 6 inches (178x15cm) after blocking. To adjust size, increase or decrease the number of granny squares or rounds.

Free Flower Scarf Crochet Pattern Instructions

For this scarf, you will need to make 11 squares. You can make more or fewer squares to adjust the final length of the scarf.

How to crochet a flower scarf:

Round 1, Color A – Pink

1. Start with a magic ring, or chain 4, and join into a ring with a slip stitch.
2. Chain 3 (first dc).
3. Work 15 more double crochet into your ring.  
4. Join with a slip stitch at the top of the chain 3. (16 stitches).
5. Cut yarn, and fasten off.

Round 2, Color B – Cream

First Treble Cluster Stitch

1. Join new yarn into any dc.
2. Chain 3 (counts as first treble).
3. YO twice, insert hook into stitch at base of chain, YO, pull up a loop (4 loops), YO and pull through 2 (3 loops), YO and pull through 2 (2 loops).
4. YO twice, insert into same stitch, YO, pull up a loop (5 loops), YO and pull through 2 (4 loops), YO and pull through 2 (3 loops).
5. YO, pull through all 3 loops. Chain 1.

Next Treble Cluster Stitch

6. *YO twice, insert hook into next stitch, YO, pull up a loop (4 loops). YO pull through 2 loops (3 loops), YO pull through 2 loops (2 loops).  
7. YO twice, insert hook into same stitch, YO, pull up a loop (5 loops). YO pull through 2 loops (4 loops), YO pull through 2 loops (3 loops).
8. YO twice, insert hook into same stitch, YO, pull up a loop (6 loops), YO pull through 2 loops (5 loops), YO pull through 2 loops (4 loops).
9. YO, pull through all 4 loops. Chain 1.

Repeat

7. Repeat from * for all stitches around the circle (16 clusters).
8. Join with a slip stitch.
9. Cut yarn. Fasten off.

Round 3, Color  – Light Green

1. Join new yarn in any chain space.
2. Chain 4 (counts as the first tr), (2tr, 3ch, 3tr) in the same space (corner).
3. 3 dc in the next ch-space, 3 hdc in the next ch-space, 3 dc in the next ch-space.
4. *(3 tr, Ch3, 3 tr) in next space (corner).
5. 3 dc in the next space, 3 hdc in the next space, 3 dc in the next space.
6. Repeat from * until back to beginning.
7. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the beginning ch-4.

Round 4, Color D – Dark Green

1. Join new color to any corner.
2. Ch3 (counts as first dc), (2 dc, 3ch, 3dc) in same corner space.
3. Work 3 dc into each space along the side. (4 dc clusters)
4. Work (3 dc, ch3, 3 dc) into the next corner space.
5. Repeat with 4 x 3dc clusters along the sides and (3 dc, ch2, 3 dc) corners.
6. Finish with a slip stitch into the top of the first ch3.
7. Fasten off.

Round 5, Color E – Speckle Green

This is a similar pattern to round 4 but with 5 dc clusters along each side.

1. Join new color to any corner.
2. Into the corner, ch3 (counts as first dc), (2 dc, 3ch, 3dc) in same corner space.
3. Work 3 dc into each space along the side. (5 dc clusters)
4. Work (3 dc, ch3, 3 dc) into the next corner space.
5. Repeat with 5 x 3dc clusters along the sides and (3 dc, ch3, 3 dc) corners.
6. Finish with a slip stitch into the top of the first ch3.
7. Fasten off and weave in all the yarn tails.

Triangles

Make 2 triangles for the ends of the crochet flower scarf.

1. ROW 1 – Color C (light green). Chain 4. Insert hook into the first chain, 2dc, turn.
2. ROW 2 – Chain 3, 2dc into first stitch. 3 dc into last chain, turn.
3. ROW 3 – Chain 3, 2dc into first stitch, 3dc into middle space, 3dc into last chain stitch, turn.
4. ROW 4 – Chain 3, 2dc into first stitch, 3dc into the 2 spaces, 3dc into last chain stitch, turn.
5. ROW 5 – Chain 3, 2dc into first stitch, 3dc into the 2 spaces, 3dc into last chain stitch, turn.
6. ROW 6 – Join color D (dark green). Repeat row 5 with 6 clusters, turn.
7. ROW 7 – Join color E (speckle green) – Repeat row 5 with 7 clusters, fasten off and weave in ends.

Blocking

To make your squares and triangles a consistent size, you will need to block them. The triangles need to be the same length as the squares.

Blocking means wetting the finished article and then pinning it to size and letting it dry to the correct shape and size. If you don’t have a foam or granny square blocking mat, just use your ironing board and some pins. Read more about crochet blocking.

Here are the finished pieces for my flower scarf crochet pattern. There are 13 granny squares in the picture, but I only ended up using 11. Using more squares is an easy way to lengthen your scarf.

Joining the Squares

1. Color D (dark green).
2. Join the granny squares wrong sides together with single crochet stitch. (This means the sc will be on the right side when you open them up.)
3. Join the triangles to each end.

Finishing the Scarf

The next step in the flower scarf crochet pattern is crocheting a border. This will tie the squares together and straighten the edges.

1. Join Color D (dark green) in a space on the end square,
2. Ch3 (counts as dc), 2dc into the space.
3. 3dc in each space until you reach the corner. 3dc into corner.
4. 3dc into side of the triangle row 7, 3dc into side of row 5, 3dc into side of row 3, 3dc into side of row 1.
5. Ch3. (point of triangle). You will now go up other side of triangle.
6. 3dc into side of row 1, 3dc into side of row 3, 3dc into side of row 5, 3dc into side of row 7. 3dc into corner of granny square.
7. Continue with 3dc into each space and corner along the side.
8. Repeat for next triangle and side. Sl st to join.
9. Join color C (light green).
10. Sc around the scarf with 3sc into the triangle points.
11. Sl st to join.
12. Fasten off and weave ends. Block the finished scarf.

Tassels

1. In color B (pink), cut 20 pieces of yarn 12 inches (30cm) long.
2. Fold them in half, creating a loop at the folded end.
3. Insert your crochet hook from back to front through the edge.
4. Hook the yarn loop with your crochet hook and pull it halfway through.
5. Open the loop with your fingers, then pull the loose ends of the yarn strands through the loop. Pull tight to secure the scarf fringe in place.
6. Repeat for next end. Trim the tassels evenly.
