Granny Infinity Scarf Pattern (Free Crochet Pattern)

Everyone loves the granny cluster design. It is one of the first styles that most crocheters learn and will open up so many new projects. This granny infinity scarf pattern is free, easy, and quick to make from any worsted-weight yarn. Use all one color or make it a pretty striped scarf.

The wonderful feature of crochet infinity scarf patterns is their versatility. You can wear them as a single long loop or wrap them around your neck twice to keep warm and cozy. This granny infinity scarf pattern is crocheted in the round, so there is no seaming.

Supplies

• Yarn: Worsted (10ply, category 4), 480m/525y (4 colors of 120m/130y each)
• Crochet hook: 5mm or hook to match gauge.
• Tapestry needle: For weaving ends.

I used Paintbox Wool Mix Aran, one of my favorite yarns for scarves and clothing. It is beautiful and soft and comes in so many colors. Any worsted-weight yarn is suitable.

Skill Level

Easy as it just uses double crochet stitches in clusters.

Gauge (4 x 4” swatch)

13 st and 7 rows of dc with a 5mm hook.

Dimensions

60 x 7.5 inches (152 x 19cm). You can adjust the length with the number of chains and the width by the number of rows.

• ch = chain stitch
• sp = space
• sk = skip

How to Crochet a Granny Infinity Scarf, Instructions

Notes: when crocheting in the round, you always have the right side up.

Foundation

1. Color A. Chain 195 stitches (multiple of 3). Make sure chains are loose.
2. Slip stitch to join the chain into a loop. Make sure the chain is not twisted.

Row 1

1. Chain 3 (counts as first dc), 2 dc into base of the chain. Skip 2 chains.
2. *3 Dc into next stitch, sk2. (This is a granny cluster.)
3. Repeat from * across row. Sl st to join round. Fasten off.

Row 2

1. Join color B in any space. Ch 3 (counts as first dc), 2 dc into the space.
2. *3 dc into next space.
3. Repeat from * along row. Slip stitch into 3^rd chain to join row.

(If you do not want to change colors each row, slip stitch to next space instead.)

Row 3 to 8

1. Continue row 2, changing the color of every row. (8 rows will be half your scarf width.)

Other Side Rows 1 to 8

1. Turn the scarf around, right side up. You will be crocheting into the spaces at the bottom of the starting chain.
2. Join color D into any space. Repeat row 2.
3. Repeat so you have 8 rows for this second side. The order of the colors will be in reverse so they look continuous.

Finishing

1. Optional – If you find your edges curling, add 1 row of single crochet on each side.
2. Fasten off and weave in ends. 
3. To make your scarf look its best, you will need to block it. This shapes and sets the scarf, smoothing out uneven stitches and defining the edge. Read more about blocking crochet.
