Supplies

Here is what you will need to crochet the Luna light cardigan crochet pattern.

• Yarn: Cotton or cotton blend DK (8ply, #3)
• Crochet hook: 4 mm hooks  
• Tapestry needle: to weave ends.

For the sample, I used Coboo from Lion Brand in Lilac. This is a lovely soft bamboo blend that draped beautifully.

Instructions for Light Crochet Cardigan Pattern

This light crochet cardigan is crocheted all in one piece. It has 3 sections – side panel, neck pane,l and second side panel.

Section 1 – Light Cardigan Crochet Pattern Side

Row 1 – Double Crochet

Chain according to the table below for a low hip length cardigan (odd number) This should be twice your desired length. Place the chain from hem to shoulder to hem on your body and check you are happy with the length. This pattern will work for any length, allowing you to easily make it longer or shorter if needed.

Dc in 4^th chain from hook and dc across row. Turn.

Row 2 – Treble Mesh

1. Chain 5 (counts as 1 tr and 1ch), skip 1, tr in next stitch.
2. *Skip 1, tr* repeat across row (last tr is into turning chain). Turn.

Row 3 – Double Crochet

1. Chain 3 (counts as first dc), dc in ch-1 space.
2. *Dc in top of tr stitch below, dc in the ch-1 space.*
3. Repeat from * across row. At the end you will dc into the last gap and then dc in the top of the turning chain. Turn.

Row 4 – Double Crochet Mesh

1. Chain 4 (counts as first dc and 1ch), skip 1, dc.
2. *Skip 1, dc.* Repeat from * across row. Turn.

Row 5 – Double Crochet

1. Chain 3 (counts as first dc), dc in ch-1 space.
2. *Dc in top of dc stitch below, dc in the ch-1 space.
3. Repeat from * across row. At the end you will dc into the last gap and then dc in the top of the turning chain. Turn.

Repeat for the Rest of Section 1

Repeat the pattern of row 2 to 5 for the total number of rows indicated below for your size. (rows including the first 5.) You will end with a double crochet row.

Section 2 – The Back of the Light Crochet Cardigan

We are now crocheting a small panel for the back neck of the light cardigan crochet pattern.

Back Row 1 – Treble Mesh

1. Chain 5 (counts as 1 tr and 1ch), skip 1, tr in next stitch.
2. *Skip 1, tr* repeat to halfway along (must be odd number of stitches).
3. Turn when you get to the number of stitches below.

• Chain 3 (counts as first dc), dc in ch-1 space.
• *Dc in top of dc stitch below, dc in the ch-1 space. Repeat from * across row.

Back Row 6 – Treble Mesh

1. Chain 5 (counts as 1 tr and 1ch), skip 1, tr in next stitch.
2. *Skip 1, tr* repeat to the halfway point.

Section 3

Beginning of Section 3

At the end of the treble mesh section, chain the below number of stitches. This will take the length to the same as the first section.

Row 1

1. Chain 2. Insert hook into 4^th chain and Dc.
2. Dc along chain.
3. When you get to the treble mesh section, continue to dc into the treble stitches and gaps as we have done previously.

Row 2– Double Crochet Mesh

1. Chain 4 (counts as first dc and 1ch), skip 1, dc.
2. *Skip 1, dc.
3. Repeat from * across row. Turn.

Row 3 – Double Crochet

1. Chain 3 (counts as first dc), dc in ch-1 space.
2. *Dc in top of tr stitch below, dc in the ch-1 space.
3. Repeat from * across row. At the end you will dc into the last gap and then dc in the top of the turning chain. Turn.

Row 4 – Treble Mesh

• Chain 5 (counts as 1 tr and 1ch), skip 1, tr in next stitch.
• *Skip 1, tr* repeat across row (last tr is into the top of the turning chain)
• Turn.

Row 5 – Double Crochet

• Chain 3 (counts as first dc), dc in ch-1 space.
• *Dc in top of tr stitch below, dc in the ch-1 space.
• Repeat from * across row. At the end you will dc into the last gap and then dc in the top of the turning chain. Turn.

Repeat

Repeat the pattern of row 2 to 5 for the total number of rows indicated below for your size. (Rows below are total rows including the first 5.) You will end with a double crochet row. This section will now match the first section.

Joining

1. Fold long edges down and match at the bottom edges.  
2. Stitch the sides leaving the armholes open. Use a slip stitch to join. See the next page for suggested armhole gap lengths. The gap length is measured shoulder to under arm (not circumference).

Collar

1. Join yarn to bottom inside neck edge.
2. Chain 3, dc in next stitch and all the way around to the other side.
3. Fasten off and weave ends.
