It is a few months until Christmas, but I can’t wait to add these to my decorations once I put my tree up. If there are any family members you have little presents for, they can fit snuggly inside. My mother always adds ceramic ornaments she has made to her presents, so I was thinking I could add these crochet mini stockings to my presents and create a new family tradition.

If you use this mini stocking crochet pattern as ornaments, don’t weave in the yarn ends inside as it adds a little bulk that looks nice. Otherwise, if you like a neat inside, add a little polyester stuffing.

How to Crochet Mini Stockings

This tutorial will show you how to crochet mini stockings that you can hang on your tree or use to create a garland. The basic steps are:

  1. Crochet the toe section as a circle with double crochet.
  2. Use single crochet for the main part of the mini stocking crocheting in the round.
  3. Crochet the heel and sew it up.
  4. Continue to the ankle.

Supplies

  • Yarn – Worsted weight yarn (10ply, category #4) or DK weight yarn (8ply, category #3). Approximately 23m/25y.
  • Crochet hooks – 5mm (H-8) for worsted or 4mm for DK.
  • Tapestry needle – to weave ends.

For these samples, I used Paintbox Cotton Aran yarn and a 4 mm hook. Due to the smaller hook, these ended up being the same size as my DK tests.

Your choice of yarn will affect how your mini stocking crochet pattern looks. Using a cotton yarn showed the stitches and stripes clearly, while a fluffier acrylic will give a softer look.
