For the sample, I used Moda Vera Shadow 8ply. This is a cotton/acrylic blend.  

Cotton yarns with acrylic blended will have better stretch recovery than pure cotton.

Ribbed Crop Top Crochet Written Instructions

Sizing

Measure your desired length from under your arm to your waist. I suggest you try on the pants or skirt you will wear and make the top finish at the waistband. Put on the bra you will wear under the top.

Measure at the front of your body, going over your curves. (The curves of your bust will shorten the top if you measure straight.)

Row 1

1. Chain to your desired top length.
2. Hdc into the 3^rd chain from the hook. Hdc across the row. Turn.

Row 2

1. Chain 1 (does not count as a stitch). Hdc into base of chain.
2. Identify the back loops. (Normally you would hdc under both loops. To create a crochet ribbing, you will insert the hoop under the back loop only.)
3. Hdc into the back loops (hdcblo) across the row. Turn.

Width

Repeat *Ch1, hdc, hdcblo across the row, turn* until the crochet piece goes around your body.

Since it stretches, the ribbed crop top will be slightly smaller than your body. If you are making this for someone else, make it 2 inches smaller for sizes XS-L or 3 inches smaller for sizes XL and up.

Joining the Ribbed Crop Top

1. Fold the piece in half, matching the short ends.
2. Slip stitch to join the edges. Fasten off and weave ends. 
3. Turn the right way out.

Straps for the Crochet Top

1. Try the tube on over the bra you will wear and mark the strap positions.
2. If the back straps are a little closer than the front straps, they will stay on your shoulders better.
3. Join yarn at the strap position.
4. Chain 1 (does not count as stitch), hdc 4 stitches. Turn.
5. *Chain 1(does not count as stitch), hdc 4 stitches. Turn.*
6. Repeat until strap is desired length. Turn so hook is on right of strap.
7. To make a rounded end, insert hook into end stitch far left and slip stitch.
8. Fasten off and weave ends.
