Ripple Blanket Sizes

You can use this pattern to make any size blanket. My sample was 44×40 inches and used 8 balls (2 of each color) 1088m/1192y total. The pom poms were an extra 50m/55y.

For this ripple blanket crochet pattern, you will chain a multiple of 10 plus 4. It is 3.5 inches (9cm) for a full ripple chevron and this is 10 stitches.

The length is easily adjusted. Just stop when you are happy with the length. If you want to do a complete set of the 4 colors, make your length a multiple of 5.5 inches. This was my length of 8 rows in 4 colors. Your tension may vary from this slightly.

Supplies

• Yarn: Chunky/Bulky (category #5, 12ply) in 4 colors.
• Crochet hook: 6.5 mm hook or size to meet gauge.
• Tapestry needle: to weave ends.

I used Paintbox Simply Chunky, but you can use any chunky weight yarn. The colors were Jewel, Summer Sky Blue, Macaroon Green, and Champagne White.

How to Crochet a Ripple Stitch Blanket, Step by Step

• dc = double crochet stitch
• ch = chain stitch
• sp = space
• st/sts =stitch/ stitches
• dc3tog = double crochet 3 together

Special Stitch – Double Crochet 3 Together (dc3tog)

To make this crochet blanket, you will need to do a dc3tog:

• Yarn over, insert hook in stitch, yarn over, pull through 2. (2 stitches on hook)
• Yarn over, insert hook in next stitch, yarn over, pull through 2. (3 stitches)  
• Yarn over, insert hook in next stitch, yarn over, pull through 2. (4stitches)  
• Yarn over and pull through 4 loops. (1 loop on hook)

Row 1 (Color A)

1. Chain any number that is a multiple of 10 and add 4. (114 chains for a 40 inch wide blanket)
2. Dc into 4th chain.
3. Dc into next 3 chains, dc3tog in next 3 chains to form a valley. 
4. *Dc into next 3 chains, (dc, ch1, dc) in next chain to form peak.
5. Dc in next 3 chains, dc3tog in next 3 chains to form a valley.
6. Repeat from * to last 4 chains.
7. Dc in next 3 chains, 2 dc in last chain. Turn.

Row 2

1. Chain 3 (counts as first dc), dc in base of chain.
2. Dc into next 3 stitches, dc3tog in next 3 stitches. 
3. *Dc into next 3 stitches, (dc, ch1, dc) in next the chain-1 space for peak.
4. Dc in next 3 stitches, dc3tog in next 3 stitches to form valley.
5. Repeat from * .
6. End with dc in last 3 stitches, 2 dc in top of turning chain. Turn.

Repeat

Repeat row 2 until your blanket is your desired size. For my sample I used 4 colors and changed every 2 rows.

Changing colors

Fasten off old color. Insert hook and put slip knot on hook and pull through. Start row crocheting over tails for a couple of inches. This will save a lot of time weaving ends later.

Finishing

Weave in ends and fasten off. Optional – Add a pom pom using yarn. (How to make a pom-pom)

Blocking

To make your blanket have straight edges, you will need to block it. Blocking means wetting the finished article and then pinning it to size and letting it dry to the correct shape and size. Read more about blocking crochet.
