I used Caron Skinny Cakes in Melon Smoothie. This self-striping yarn comes in skeins of over 700 yards, so you will only need one skein. It is machine washable, which I love when making crochet scarves. Any DK yarn is suitable.

Gauge (4 x 4” swatch)

16 st and 8 rows of dc with a 4mm hook.

Dimensions

72 x 7.5 inches (182 x 19cm) after blocking (not including fringe). You can adjust the length with the number of chains and the width by the number of rows.

Simple Scarf Crochet Pattern Instructions

As you can see from the photo below, this simple crochet scarf is made using a repeating pattern of 2 double crochet rows and 3 granny cluster rows.

Row 1 (Dc row)

1. Chain 282 stitches (multiple of 3)
2. Insert hook into 4^th chain from hook and dc.
3. Dc across row, turn.

Row 2 (Dc Row)

1. Chain 3 (counts as first dc).
2. Dc into next stitch, and across row. (Final stitch in 3^rd chain.)
3. Turn.

Row 3 (Cluster row)

1. Chain 3 (counts as first dc),  2 dc into base of chain.
2. *Sk 2 stitches, 3 dc into next stitch. (This is a granny cluster.)
3. Repeat from * along row until last 3 stitches.
4. Sk 2, dc into last stitch. (Final stitch in 3^rd chain.)
5. Turn.

Row 4 (Cluster row)

1. Chain 3 (counts as first dc), turn, 2 dc into space below.
2. *3 dc into next space.
3. Repeat from * along row until last cluster.
4. Dc into top of last stitch. Turn.

Row 5 (Cluster row)

1. Repeat row 4.

Row 6 and 7 (Dc rows)

1. Repeat row 2 (this is a dc row) for rows 6 and 7.

Rows 8 to 17

1. Repeat pattern from rows 3 to 7 two more times.
2. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Blocking

Fringing

1. Cut 10 pieces of yarn 12 inches (30cm) long.
2. Fold them in half, creating a loop at the folded end.
3. Insert your crochet hook from back to front through the edge.
4. Hook the yarn loop with your crochet hook and pull it halfway through.
5. Open the loop with your fingers, then pull the loose ends of the yarn strands through the loop.
6. Pull tight to secure the fringe in place. Trim evenly.
7. Repeat for next fringes. (5 each side)
