• Gauge – 7 mesh squares per 4 inches across. However, since this is a scarf, gauge is not particularly important.
• Dimensions – The blocked scarf measures 60 x 6 inches (152 x 15cm).

• Yarn: Worsted yarn (10ply) #4 Approximately 315m/344y
• Crochet hook: H-8 (5mm) hook  
• Tapestry needle: For weaving ends.

The Yarn I Used

For the summer scarf crochet pattern sample, I used 3/4 of a ball of Lion Brand Ombre Mandala in color Mantra. There was plenty left in the ball to make tassels but I opted to do them in a DK cotton. The cotton yarn had more weight so made the tassels hang nicely.

This yarn is a fantastic choice for a project like this, thanks to its beautiful self-striping colorway and soft, lightweight texture. Mantra features a smooth gradient of calming blue and green hues that flow seamlessly from one shade to the next. It reminded me of the sea.

Made from a blend of acrylic and nylon, Lion Brand Mandala Ombre is not only soft against the skin but also durable and easy to care for. The yarn’s light weight makes it ideal for a summer accessory, as it creates a breathable, comfortable scarf that won’t weigh you down.

• dc = double crochet stitch
• ch = chain stitch
• sp = space
• st/sts =stitch/ stitches

Written Pattern

Here is how to crochet the Summer scarf:

Row 1

1. Chain 33 (must be odd number)
2. Insert hook in 4^th chain from hook and dc.
3. *Ch2, skip 2, dc.
4. Repeat from * across row to last chain. Dc in last chain. (9 mesh spaces)

Row 2

1. Chain 3 (counts as first dc). Dc in next stitch.
2. *Ch2, dc in top of dc in row below.
3. Repeat from * across row to last stitch.
4. Dc in top of turning chain. (9 mesh spaces with 2 dc either end)

Row 3 (Repeat)

Repeat row 2 until you have the desired length for your summer scarf crochet pattern. I made my scarf 60 inches (152cm) not including the tassels. This mesh stitch is very stretchy, so make it a little shorter than your other scarves.

Finishing and Tassels

1. Weave in the ends.
2. Block your scarf to even out the edges and define the mesh. (Read about crochet blocking.)
3. Cut approximately 15-20 pieces, 8 inches long (20cm).
4. Cut a piece of yarn 10 inches long (25cm). Use it to wrap around the center 2 times and knot tightly.
5. Fold the tassel in half. Cut another piece 10 inches (25cm and wrap it around the head twice, 1 inch (2.5cm) from the top. Knot tightly. Use a crochet hook to pull these ends inside the tassel.
6. Trim the ends, but not the top ties.
7. Use the long ties to knot to the scarf ends. Pull the ends though the tassel with a crochet hook.
